Andrew Cumming is the founder and Managing Partner of Cumming & Partners. Andrew’s practice areas span a wide variety of cross-border matters, including U.S. and Canadian immigration law, estate and tax planning and all facets of wealth management law. Prior to establishing his own firm, Andrew worked at leading law firms in the United States (Kaufman, Miller) and Canada (Blake, Cassels & Graydon).
Andrew is a frequent speaker at conferences on cross-border legal topics. He has published numerous articles, and is the author of the best-selling book Florida Bound: The Essential Guide for Canadian Snowbirds (Macmillan Canada: 1998).
Andrew is active in the community, sitting or having sat on multiple national charity and foundation boards including Best Buddies Canada and the Daniel Snyder Memorial Foundation. Axel is Senior Counsel and Head of Business Initiatives at Cumming & Partners. Axel delivers effective, pragmatic and integrated business and legal solutions to privately-held companies, their executives and shareholders as well as high-net worth families. He counsels clients with respect to sophisticated business structures and transactions, including the acquisition and sale of businesses, reorganizations, estate freezes and trust and estate planning. Axel is also an expert on immigration planning for businesses and their executives engaged in cross-border trade and investments.
He provides “general counsel” and “home family office” type of advice regarding wealth management, asset protection, inter-generational wealth transfers, succession planning, trustee mandates, investments, venture capital and philanthropic initiatives (including establishing charities and charitable foundations).
He has acted for clients in a wide range of matters, including NHL players and their estate plans, trust companies in multi-billion dollar trust roll-overs/reorganizations, providing indenture trustee and trust governance advice and representing Canada’s largest private equity funds on private placements and cross-border investments.
Axel has been an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School teaching Legal Drafting and has taught the experiential-based course, The Introduction to the Practice of Transactional Law at Tulane Law School (recognized as one of the top 20 innovative law schools in the U.S. by National Jurist Magazine). He is an advisor and contributor to the Practice Advisor at LexisNexis, one of the world’s largest providers of legal and financial information services; and he is currently writing a book on Legal Drafting to be published by LexisNexis.

Mary is a Senior Law Clerk working out of New York. She has worked in the immigration field since 1988, and has experience in all areas of immigration law. She has developed a unique specialization in handling U.S. Labor Certification matters, which has now become her principal role at our firm.
Mary has an abundance of experience dealing with the Department of Labor at the Federal and State levels throughout the United States. She manages various accounting matters including billing and accounts receivables. She also assists with Wealth Management matters, preparing Wills and other estate planning documents for both Canada and the United States.
Nadeen’s passion has been with the immigration industry, and pursuing a career with Cumming & Partners has given her the opportunity to follow her interests.

Prior to joining Cumming & Partners, Aisling worked for an Investment Fund Law Firm as a Deputy Head of Fund Registration, assisting with UCITS and AIFs registrations across Europe.

Under the guidance of her team, Bianca is working to gain knowledge in Canadian and U.S. Immigration laws and applications. Prior to joining the Cumming & Partners team, Bianca worked as an international flight attendant.

Prior to joining our firm, Irina spent several years working as Legal Assistant in Personal Injury field.
Ms. Kovaleva has earned a Global Business Management Diploma from Humber College (2016). She has been with C&P since January 2021.
Kayla is a legal administrative assistant working along the Business Development team to support new client initiatives. Prior to joining our firm, she gained valuable experience as an administrative assistant. Kayla is very excited to start her legal career here at C&P.
